A late night police chase ended in a deadly collision Monday when a fleeing 2007 Scion crashed into a home in the 4800 block of SW 28th.
Police reports indicate that an officer noticed the car heading west at what was described as a high rate of speed on SW 21st St. The driver then reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of 21st and Fairlawn, where he turned left onto Fairlawn.
The officer then began to try and catch the Scion, chasing it from the 2300 block of 4800 block of SW 28th, when the driver apparently lost control of his car and struck a house.
The officer rushed to offer assistance until emergency crews arrived and took the driver and his passenger to a local hospital.
The driver, 18 year-old Nicholas Ray Johnson, later died at the hospital; while his passenger, John Taylor, 20, of Topeka is listed as being in serious condition.
