HEARTLAND PARK -- The O’Reilly Vintage Grand Prix combines two summer favorites, classic cars and auto-racing into one great event at Heartland Park. Hosted by Heartland Vintage Racing August 19, 20 and 21, the event includes a Performance Driving Experience, vintage and exotic cars on display in the car corral and hours of racing.
The public is invited to enroll in a Performance Driving Experience session with a certified instructor on Thursday, August 19. Get the most out of your own street car by driving like a pro on the Heartland Park road course. Bring your own car and helmet. Registration and instruction for the day session begins at 8 a.m. with track access until 5 p.m., $100. Registration for the evening session is at 5 p.m. with track access until 8 p.m., $85.
Friday evening the public is invited to Heartland Park for a free open house inside the paddock. Open from 5:30 to 8 p.m., visitors will be able to meet the drivers and see the cars up close.
Seven sessions of vintage race cars will take to the track Friday, Saturday and Sunday, ranging from Mustangs, Cameros, Triumphs, MGs, Austin Healys, Alfas, Formula Vee and other formula cars. An additional group of exhibition cars will include Indy, classic and exotic race cars along with college Society of Automotive Engineering cars.
Races begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and Sunday. The featured event is the Triumph Kastner Cup Race Sunday afternoon. The Topeka High School band and an aircraft flyover will kick-off the Kastner Race. The Victory Lane Vintage Formula Vee Festival Race, sponsored by Victory Lane Magazine will be held Sunday mid-morning. The public is also invited to view the practice sessions on the track Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
Admission is $10 per day or $25 for a Friday, Saturday, Sunday ticket. All tickets include complete paddock access to the cars, drivers, practices, races, vendors and car clubs. Tickets are available at all O’Reilly Auto Parts Stores and at the Gate E Registration Building at Heartland Park.
