Two House lawmakers are urging President Bush to ignore pressure from European leaders in choosing a new supplier for a 35 billion dollar Air Force tanker contract.

Kansas Rep. Todd Tiahrt and Washington Rep Norm Dicks say they are responding to reports that the British Prime Minister French President and German Chancellor lobbied Bush on the deal.

The European leaders are pushing for the team of Northrop Grumman and European Airbus to win the contract over rival Boeing.

A White House spokesman confirms the leaders raised the issue, but says President Bush told them it's a Pentagon matter.

In a letter, Tiahrt and Dicks ask Bush to make sure the competition remains fair.
