D.A. Files Motion to Question City Manager, Other Workers Save Email Print

Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht wants to ask Topeka City Manager Norton Bonaparte and some other city employees a few questions about software and police helicopter contracts.

Hecht filed a response Tuesday to their attorney's motion to quash the subpoenas he issued. Hecht says their motion suggests that he couldn't subpoena them again, since he already talked to them while investigating possible violations of the open meetings act relating to getting the contracts approved.

However, Hecht says he's investigating an entirely different matter, that being whether any city workers or elected officials violated the Kansas Cash Basis Law with the contracts.

Hecht has already filed suit over approval of the helicopter purchase.

Just last week, city officials said they'd ask the city council to fix the ERP software and helicopter contracts to include specific language required by the cash basis law.
