The Topeka City Council reacted at the end of the Tuesday night meeting to Shawnee County Commissioner Vic Miller's claim the charter ordinance changing to the city manager form of government doesn't allow overriding mayoral vetoes.

Deputy Mayor Brett Blackburn says it does and he asked the city attorney's office to issue an opinion. Mayor Bill Bunten wants a review of the entire charter ordinance.

Miller says it his view is correct, it would make votes overriding Bunten vetoes, like those allowing for a new ERP software purchase and an increase in municipal court fees, void. Miller has sent Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht a letter asking for a review. Hecht told the Topeka Capital Journal it would be more appropriate for the Attorney General's office to do such a review.
